Jochen Pankrath - 2D
Painting
26 May - 29 July 2012
Opening on Friday, 25 May 2012, at 20:00
Introduction: Jörg Meißner, M.A., Tübingen
Jochen Pankrath is a laconic narrator - and an unpathetic painter with a dry visual language. Yet his works are full of mystery and aesthetic power. As pictures within pictures, they tell of the artist's very private inner world and of the general, combining micro- and macrocosm.
In his exhibition "2 D", which runs until 29 July, the 1981-born artist Jochen Pankrath is showing numerous large and small-format oil paintings that are just as enigmatic and captivating to the viewer in their formal aesthetic structure as they are in their great narrative power. Pankrath's figurative work is presented in a painterly manner with an unspent independence. His pictorial language, based on Expressionism and objectivity, is fresh, dynamic and above all without any mannerism; brought to the canvas with a large to euphoric painterly gesture and an often impasto application of paint, which is contrasted by differentiated, partly broken colour gradients in closed areas.
