Jan Pötter

Since 1996, the Kunstverein has been transformed annually for a few weeks into an experimental space for artists - into an "Atelier auf Zeit" (temporary studio).
Since August 1, 2015 Jan Pötter has been a guest. He started from scratch with papers, inks and brushes and made floral and other plants his theme.
The artist booklet entitled Heergod's Natuur is a homage to the Low German regional poet Karl Sauvagerd (1906-1992).
In his expressive mixed-media works Jan Pötter creates a fantastic, colorful and very narrative world. Using symbols, he also deals with the catastrophes and conflicts of modern, western society. In Pötter's works there are clear references to Art brut, also known as Outsider Art - an artistic movement and homage to the unconventional, naive and raw art of the late 1940s. Pötter's reference to the art of Art brut can be found in his almost aggressive lines, colours and the at times naive symbolic language.
Jan Pötter (*1988, Nordhorn) studied painting and drawing from 2008-2012 at the AKI, Academy of Fine Arts Enschede (The Netherlands, NL) and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Art. He lives and works in Leipzig.
