19 October to 1 December 2002

Introduction Dr. Heinz Liesbrock, Bottrop.
An exhibition in cooperation with the Niedersächsische Sparkassenstiftung, showing for the first time works from its collection of contemporary photography.

While the tradition of landscape painting almost completely broke off after 1945, the theme found new expression in artistic photography. The focus is on human interventions in nature and the close intertwining of landscape and urban space.
In his photographs Robert Adams shows the power of the landscape of the American West, which has been preserved despite massive interventions by roads and settlements.
Joachim Brohm and Simone Nieweg focus on the Ruhr area and the agricultural structure of the Lower Rhine and Westphalia.
Laurenz Berges shows how in the Rhenish lignite region nature is reclaiming the villages abandoned by man.
Bernhard Fuchs' pictures underline the still possible connection between nature and landscape.

A book has been published to accompany the exhibition.

Supported by the Nierdersächsische Sparkassenstiftung, the Grafschafter Sparkassenstiftung, the city of Neuenhaus and the state of Lower Saxony.
