"Parallel" is a programme series in cooperation with the city of Neuenhaus. The exhibitions take place in the Old Town Hall Neuenhaus (opposite the Kunstverein).

Ellen Korth, born 1952 in The Hague, Netherlands, studied at the Basel School of Design from 1980 to 1984 and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Enschede from 1986 to 1987. Several trips to Japan have had a significant influence on her work.

Spontaneous portrait photographs, which she took in the crowded streets of Japan, she reduced on the computer to the pure face, thus freeing it from the anonymity of the masses and creating a new reality. Through this intervention, she transfers the natural beauty into the artistic beauty and points out what is hidden. The transparent fabrics mounted over the faces emphasize the uniqueness of the portrayed people and seem to give them a shell. This is how the "kire" (cut) from Japanese philosophy is reproduced.
Ellen Korth lives and works in Germany and in the Netherlands.
