Marcia Hafif, Parking Lot. Photography |
Photographs, Videos, Texts, and one Painting
September 18th to November 7th, 1999.
Introduction: Gudrun Thiessen-Schneider
Known primarily as a monochromatic painter, Marcia Hafif (born 1929, California, USA) creates relationships between her own literary texts, photographs, and films in her work. For her, these media are all equally artistic materials and are ultimately just a different chapter of her book inventory series ("The Inventory"), even if the methods she uses are different.

In this exhibition, examples of Hafif's work with videos, photographs, and texts were presented alongside a single painting.
The artist book "Marcia Hafif, Letters to JC" was also released for the exhibition to connect the texts with the photographs.
In 2018 Marcia Hafif died in California.
From 17 July to 30 September 2018, her films (1970 - 1999) were on display in the Lenbachhaus (Kunstbau) Munich, Germany. Including those that were shown in 1999 at the Kunstverein.
