daily readings from September 1 to 30, 2010: "The Nazi & the Hairdresser" by Edgar Hilsenrath; accompanying the readings, he will show new photographs taken in Israel in May 2010.
The way the German public deals with the crimes of the Third Reich, imbued with 'Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa' shouts, repeatedly emphasizes the absolute exceptionality of this gigantic genocide. But in the genocides still taking place in other parts of the world, these crimes are repeated. With its reading Prüllage wants to sharpen the vigilance against further possible repetitions and show the dangers that lie in absolute and fundamentalist thinking.
Hilsenrath, who as a person directly affected must be granted this form of dealing with his own history, brings the historical events back into everyday life with his completely disrespectful portrayal of the Third Reich, the Second World War, the Final Solution and the settlement policy of the Israelis in Palestine in the form of a dirty, gruesome Eulenspiegel novel, thus revealing the danger of absolute and fundamentalist ways of thinking with every laugh that gets stuck in your throat.

Reinhard Prüllage, *1953 in Altötting, lives and works in Nordhorn.

"Measure and number - In our time, due to fast moving times and rapid technical developments, it is increasingly impossible for the individual to position or orientate himself clearly. The artist Ulrich Schürhaus, who lives in Thuine in Lower Saxony, studied painting and design at the University of Applied Sciences for Design in Münster and now works in the media of room installation, object, drawing and painting. A thematic focus of his three-dimensional works lies in the question of the relationship between the human being and the space in which he moves. He often positions stylized figures as representatives of the de-individualized, standardized person in equally schematically organized spatial structures, which are reminiscent of places in public space, but without being oriented towards concrete models. Similar to the figures, the space is also stylized and symmetrically designed from a few elements such as metal plates or steel rails, so that the correspondence of the two elements opens up questions about the possibility of individuality and autonomy in a world organized according to schemata. … " (extract) Meike Behm

The project is supported by the Emsländische Landschaft e.V. for the districts Emsland and Grafschaft Bentheim as well as by the city of Neuenhaus.
