Introduction: Lena Hartmann, M.A. (Osnabrück)

In Toulou Hassani's paintings, the focus is not, as usual, on the motifs on the canvas, but on the picture carrier itself - stretcher frames, fabrics and the material foundations of painting. Hassani's works are fluid connections between painting, drawing and sculptural objects.
In 2014, Hassani was awarded the New York Fellowship of the Niedersächsische Sparkassenstiftung and the State of Lower Saxony for the technical precision of her works and the sensitive examination of familiar structures, which was combined with a one-year stay in New York. The exhibition features works that were created before, during and after Hassani's stay in New York.

Born 1984 in Ahwaz, Iran. Studied at the Universidad Valencia in Spain and at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste Braunschweig, where she was a master student of Walter Dahn until 2012. She has her first solo exhibition at the Kunstverein Grafschaft Bentheim.

Exhibition catalogue: Toulu Hassani, "whoever brought me here has to take me home".
