Megan Craig

The main focus of the exhibition was on the reconstruction of views of New York City that Megan Craig had painted in the summer before September 11th, 2001.

Megan Craig (born 1975, USA), survived the attack on the World Trade Center in New York that occurred on September 11th, 2001.  She had received a grant from the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council and worked in a studio on the 91st floor, calling it "a studio in the sky."

In her first international solo exhibition, we presented the work of an a former inhabitant of the North tower.  In the September 11th disaster, Craig lost all of her work except for a few surviving sketches that she had kept in her apartment.  She has painted some of the burned paintings a second time, and ten of these were on display in the exhibition.  They have two functions for the viewer:  simultaneously recreating a view that no longer exists, and acting as a memorial to the event; however, in addition, the views themselves primarily represent a new momentum of perspective, looking at the world through the eyes of a bird.
